FAQ

What does a typical day look like?

When your child comes into pre school in the morning first we have a circle time to say good morning to everyone. We are a free flow setting and our outside area is always open during the session so the children can move freely around the room and outside choosing which activities/resources they would like to play with. During the session we run a snack bar where the children have a choice of a selection of fruit and vegetables plus either breadsticks/rice cakes or crackers. Towards the end of the morning we all sit for story time to slow down before lunch.

The afternoon session is free flow and we stop around half past two for toast time and a story. At the end of the afternoon we come together to reflect on and discuss what we've been doing during the session then sing some songs including our 'See you very soon song' to say goodbye to everyone at the end of a busy, fun-filled day.

What does my child need to bring to pre-school?

A bag with a couple of changes of clothes, wellies, a sunhat and sun cream in the summer and gloves/hat etc in the colder weather. If your child is still in nappies then please provide nappies and wipes. Please make sure that everything is named.

Who is responsible for my child at pre-school?

When your child joins us they will be allocated a key person. Although we believe strongly in all staff developing nurturing relationships with all the children in our care a child's key person will usually form a close bond with their key children and their families.
All our new starters will receive a welcome pack and an introduction from their key person so they can get to know them from the very beginning of their time with us.
We are committed to our children, their families and our community and we believe in working closely together, in partnership with parents, to provide the best possible care for your child in the early years of their lives.

What are your adult to child ratios?

We work within the EYFS stated ratios which are 1:4 for two year olds and 1:8 for 3/4 year olds. Each key group consists of mixed ages of 2-4 years to aid child development, and the setting is free flow for all ages to interact and play together.

Information: FAQ

Does my child need to wear a uniform?

Uniforms are not compulsory at pre-school, it is totally up to you. We do recommend, however, that your child does not wear their best clothes as we have lots of messy (and fun) activities on offer every day.
If you do wish to get your child uniform you can purchase it from Myclothing.com, please click on the learn more button at the bottom of this section.

Do you provide hot dinners?

You can either send your child with a suitable packed lunch or we can order a hot dinner from Petersgate Infant School. Hot dinners cost £3.74 per day and the menu can be found on the Petersgate School website under the parents drop down bar.
We provide milk and water for your child to drink throughout the day, but you are welcome to put a carton of drink in with their lunch if you wish.

How will I be able to see what my child has been doing at pre-school?

We have online Learning Journals through a platform called 'EY Log'. Photographs, video clips and observations will be regularly uploaded to the secure site and you will be given an activation link when your child starts with us so you can see what they've been up to.

We are trying to reduce our paper usage so you will receive newsletters, important information and updates through email as well. We also put some information and updates on our Facebook and Instagram pages so it's worth keeping an eye out for those.

Do you monitor my child's progress?

At Clanfield Community Pre-School we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is the Statutory Framework for promoting the learning, development and safety of children from birth to five.

The three prime areas we focus on are; communication & language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. These prime areas are strengthened by four specific areas of learning; literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world and expressive arts and design. These areas are all connected, with learning in one area supporting learning in others.

We believe in working in partnership with parents on their child's learning journey; sharing their special moments and progress both in the setting and at home to provide a fully rounded approach to understanding and promoting development.

We share you child's process with you via EY Log, staff observations and termly updates.

Information: FAQ

Do you administer medicines?

We can only administer prescribed medication; it needs to be in the original packaging with the child's name and the directions on it. You will need to complete a permission to administer medicine form, which a member of staff will give to you. When staff have administered the medicine (in the presence of another staff member) they will fill in the details (dosage, time etc) and both sign the form.

If your child needs an inhaler or epi-pen these should be at the pre-school at all times when the child is there. You will also need to fill in a Health Care Plan detailing the child's condition and the protocol to be followed.

Welcome pack

When your child is due to start with us you will receive a child pack to fill in with all the necessary information. Also included is all the information you need about us prior to your child's pre-school journey.

Policies and Procedures

Copies of our Pre-School Policies and Procedures are available to all our parents. We regularly update our policies and if you would like to view a particular policy please ask us.
